Tom Coburn, R-Crazyland

Easy post, people.

Yesterday, some of the bigger bloggers (Daily Kos, Crooks & Liars) posted bits of (R-Crazyland) bizarre statement during the hearings:
SEN. COBURN: You know, how is it that we have sodomy protected under that due process but prostitution unprotected? It's schizophrenic. And the reason it's schizophrenic is there's no foundation for it whatsoever other than a falsely created foundation that is in error.

I don't know if we'll ever change that. It's a measure of our society.

But the fact is that you can't claim, in this Senate hearing, to care for those that are underprivileged, to those that are at risk, to those that are vulnerable, to those that are weak, to those that suffer and, at the same time, say I don't care about those who have been ripped from the wombs of women and the complications that have come about throughout that.

So, the debate, for the American public -- and the real debate here is about Roe.
"Huh" and, "Okay then."

Clearly, dude is on top of his game.

Coburn's little rant gives us a good reason to revisit some of his greatest hits:
1. "I'm an American first and a Republican third or fourth."

2. "I favor the death penalty for abortionists and other people who take life."

3. "And I thought I would just share with you what science says today about silicone breast implants. If you have them, you're healthier than if you don't. In fact, there's no science that shows that silicone breast implants are detrimental and, in fact, they make you healthier."

4. "Washington plays hard ball and the first thing, if you go along, get along, you're going to be counted on to go along and get along."

5. "I have on my desk a complete medical file of , and I would challenge the accuracy of many of the statements by people involved in that case in terms of her medical condition, and I would also challenge some of the autopsy findings based on what I have on my desk in Washington."

6. "I know the tribal issues. I was a congressman where most of the Indians are in this state. The problem is that most of them aren't Indians. The average Cherokee quantum is 1/512."
Had enough yet?
7."Lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?"
"SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA IS A HOTBED OF 'LESBIANISM?'"

Yes, Lord.

"WHAT THE HELL IS HE TALKING ABOUT?"

Dunno.

"AND WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING ON THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE?!"

Providing comic relief.

"HE'S DOIN' A GOOD JOB."

Yep.

Superior point from Josh Marshall:
And as long as we're discussing it, does anyone notice that every corruption case we're now talking about -- Abramoff, Cunningham, and pretty much all the rest -- either started or shifted into high gear right about the time that was elected?

Think about it.
No more snarky comments.

*

"STEELERS 24, COLTS 20."

That's your call?

"FOR NOW."

Okay then.

More later...
