BRANDOLAND: Talking to God...For You!

Tues., Sept. 6

Doing my part by posting the Babs Bush quote - originally heard on NPR:
In a segment at the top of (NPR's "Marketplace") on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing - WHICH IS SORT OF SCARY - is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality."
No comment...gets better:
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."
One more time:
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."
Wow.

Her blue blood runs cold.

I really feel bad for Our Kid: Dude had no chance. You'd drink, too, if you grew up with a mom like that.

CUE the "Star Wars" music - here comes "Dandy" Don Rumsfeld.

(Editor & Publisher has been posting important info from the Gulf.)
"Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Donald H. RUMSFELD arrived in Louisiana today and toured a medical facility at the New Orleans international airport.

"Upon his arrival at the airport, Mr. Rumsfeld spoke to and shook hands with military and rescue officials, BUT HE WALKED RIGHT BY A DOZEN REFUGEES LYING ON STRETCHERS JUST FEET AWAY FROM HIM, most of them extremely SICK OR HANDICAPPED, Reuters reported."
Didn't have to stop: Don knew that things were "working very well for them."

The dash for cash begins!

Check out this post from Talking Points Memo:
$10.5 billion is just a small down payment on the money that's going to go into draining and rebuilding New Orleans, constructing a much more durable and comprehensive system of pumps and levees around the city, patching up the coastlines of Mississippi and Alabama.

And did we mention the important Senate race next year in Florida? And then there's the Port of New Orleans. And the oil facilities in the Gulf.

Of course, if you want to get down into the minutiae, remember it was Joe Allbaugh who got his college buddy Michael Brown the patronage job at FEMA; when Allbaugh got into the Iraqi contracts racket he handed FEMA over to Brown. And the guy that helped Allbaugh set up his new influence-peddling shop out of a wing of his DC office? Right, Haley Barbour, who's now Governor of Mississippi.

Like I said, I bet we see Allbaugh pretty soon deciding that his services are required closer to home.

The White House is already laying the groundwork for centralizing all authority over contracting within the executive branch, which for all intents and purposes means the White House. No oversight. No transparency. Halliburton ready at the trough.

Like a friend of mine said earlier this evening, it really is going to be THE BIGGEST SLUSH FUND OF ALL TIME.
On that note, there are folks out there...who lost everyhing in this tragedy...who now believe...that the reason the federal government left "them" behind...is because..."the big money people" have always wanted to LEVEL the poor neighborhoods of NoLa...so they could build a "Gulf Coast Riviera" in its place.

Hmm.

We'll see.

The N.O. people will have to fight Haley Barbour and Trent Lott for cash, though.

GOP Politicians Will Help Get Relief Funds

Yep.
WASHINGTON (AP) - A triumvirate of Republican power brokers may give Mississippi first dibs in the post-Hurricane Katrina grab for federal disaster funds even though the federal government focused its initial response to the storm on New Orleans.
Doo bee doo bee doo.

Bill O'Reilly just said that he "knows what 'it' was like" (the NoLa chaos) because he was in the L.A. Riots.

"Gettin' shot at."

Ha.

More later...
