Monday, September 12th

The headline from the Guardian UK:

"Mercenaries guard homes of the rich in New Orleans"

Remember yesterday's merc-quote?

"You're going to see a lot more guys like us in these situations?"

I'm just saying:
Hundreds of mercenaries have descended on New Orleans TO GUARD THE PROPERTY of the city's millionaires from looters.

The heavily armed men, employed by private military companies including BLACKWATER and ISI, are part of the militarisation of a city which had a reputation for being one of the most relaxed and easy-going in America.
Get ready:
TWO ISRAELI MERCENARIES from ISI, another private military company, were guarding Audubon Place, A GATED COMMUNITY.

Wearing bulletproof vests, they were carrying M16 ASSAULT RIFLES.

Gill, 40, and Yovi, 42, who refused to give their surnames, said they were army veterans of the ISRAELI WAR IN LEBANON, but had been living in Houston for 17 years.
Gill & Yovi?

Isn't that a show on NICKELODEON?

"Good morning, Gill!"

"Morning, Yovi!"

"What are you gonna do today?"

"I'm gonna bonk you on the head!"

Smack.

Honk honk!

"Ha! Do that again!"
They had been hired by Jimmy Reiss, a descendant of an OLD NEW ORLEANS FAMILY who made his fortune selling electronic systems to shipbuilders. They had been flown by private jet to Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, and then helicoptered to Audubon Place, they said.

"I spoke to one of the other owners on the telephone earlier in the week," Yovi said.

"I told him how the water had stopped just at the back gate. God watches out for the rich people, I guess."
One more time:
"God watches out for the rich people, I guess."
And again:
"God watches out for the rich people, I guess."
Well...

Do you?

"OF COURSE I DO!"

What about that stuff...about...you know...it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than 'the rich' entering the Kingdom of Heaven?

"TOTAL BULLSHIT. A GOOD LINE INVENTED BY SOME GUY WHO WANTED 'THE POOR' TO BE 'SATISFIED' WITH WHAT THEY 'HAD.' WE JUST NEEDED THEM TO, UH, STOP ASKING RIDICULOUS QUESTIONS LIKE, YOU KNOW, 'WHERE'S MINE? WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME? HOW COME I'M NOT RICH?'"

Um...

"CAPICE?"

I guess.

Good news, citizens!

The "America Supports You Freedom March" went off without a hitch.

Bits from the NY Times:
War protesters were in short supply. When two did appear along Mr. Rumsfeld's path, one carrying a sign saying, "Bush is a Liar," an aide accompanying Mr. Rumsfeld, Allison Barber, encouraged walkers to begin chanting "U.S.A." The chant was short-lived.

Earlier in the day, several protesters appeared to run into trouble with the large police presence at the Pentagon and along the route. One man who registered for the walk was detained by a Pentagon police officer after he slipped a black hood over his head and produced a sign that read, "Freedom?"

The man was removed from the Pentagon registration area, handcuffed and taken away in a police car.

It was not clear whether he was charged or simply detained and the police did not respond to messages requesting more information.
Bits from the Washington Post:
A few war protesters who registered for the event turned their Freedom Walk shirts inside-out and, using black markers, replaced the shirt's red-and-blue logos with their own political sentiments.

Their presence prompted an occasional verbal parry. One flash point was along Independence Avenue, where a few people shouted and held up signs critical of the war and the Bush administration.

"USA! USA!" marchers chanted in reply. "MINDLESS IDIOTS!" a man shouted at the protesters.

One protester, Rik Silverman, 27, of Arlington said he was holding a sign that said, "Shame on You" when a marcher leaned over the railing and PUNCHED HIM IN THE STOMACH.

A U.S. Park Police officer wrote a report but no arrests were made.
Why do I get the feeling that the report said, "Then...the freedom marcher got in a good one!"

Finally, the "freedom march" quote of the day.

From Dandy Don, courtesy of the Seattle Times:
"Throughout human history there have been those who seek power through fear and mass murder.

But eventually - all of them — every one — has fallen."
Rummy was referring to the "evil-doers," you see.

Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Eh, eh, eh?

More later...
